 Everything I excepted and more!
I spent a lot of time in choosing the right elliptical for me. I studied consumer reports and other review websites and found out that the auidiostrider 990 has been proven to be a reliable machine. After about one hour the machine was up and running perfectly. I purchased the extended warranty being that it is added onto the manufactures warranty. I've owned the machine for almost two months now and haven't had any problmes, nor do I expect any. Thanks NordicTrack!

A quick review - brand new elliptical
My elliptical arrived today. As stated, the delivery is curbside and not brought into the house, but they did bring it into the garage (thankfully since the snow is melting and the driveway is wet). I cut open the box and cut the side off to get to all the parts - carried all but the main component upstairs. Hubby carried the main component up by himself when he got home. I had read a number of reviews that stated about 2 hours to put together. He had it put together in about an hour and we were trying it out :) My only complaints after a single use are mostly cosmetic - the display component looks completely different than pictured and the pedals have orange dots, not blue etc - not a big deal, just would be nice if the picture matched the product. The only other complaint I have is that the sound is not good - the iPod and the iFit both sounded pretty bad, but listenable. I only took off 1/2 a star for these issues as they aren't a huge deal to me. I plan to add another review once I have had the machine for a while.

Best Elliptical out there for the Money
It comes in a huge box and assembly took about 2 hours. The manual states that two people are needed to put this thing together - I think two people are needed just to lift the thing. Anyhow, I couldn't wait for another person so I put it together alone and it was pretty simple - by the way, I am a male, 5'11" and 210lbs.The Audiostrider 990 works great, I couldn't be happier. It has intense workouts from beginner to advanced and the power incline is worth the extra money as it allows for a better workout without stopping. It is for the most part silent, the only noise comes from the monitor and when the power incline is at work, which is not that loud. The fan is convenient if your tall enough and the MP3 jack plugs into my Zune and Sansa just fine producing great sound from the mounted speakers, the volume is controlled by the MP3 player. I also like the IFit card that acts like your own personal trainer. I have only used the demo it comes with but I am considering buying one from the IFit website. All in all, I recommend this elliptical whole heartedly.

 Sweet machine
This is the best elliptical I've ever used (except for when I had a gym membership) It's smooth, QUIET and the stride is natural. I've heard customer service is tough in January but I don't think I'll have any trouble with this machine. The sound is good and the ramp is very smooth. It's very advanced. If I could give it 10 stars I would. Buy it, you won't regret it.

 Best Elliptical
Definitely a 5 star machine. My Husband wanted me to buy a treadmill but now he's glad we bought this. It's beautiful quality and has tons of features. It's very easy to figure out. I love working out to my music and the fan is much nicer than I expected. The pedals are close together which makes it much more comfortable than most ellipticals I tried at the store. It's also easy on my knees.

 Smooth
I tried quite a few ellipticals before I bought this one and it's the smoothest machine I've used. I usually work out with head phones so I don't use the speakers very often but they sound great. I like to work out while I watch my favorite shows and the nordictrack is so quiet I don't even have to turn up the TV. it's the best machine I've owned. My husband said it was tough to put together and told me I couldn't give it five stars because of that.

 smooth ride
I can see why this machine is a Consumer Reports best buy. It has to be one of the smoothest ellipticals I have ever been on. For the longest time I spent my mornings working out at a gym on a lot of different types of exercise machines including ellipticals. And I have to say this machine is as good as anything i have been on including the commercial gym models.

 Not too shabby
Very smooth, sturdy. Get an occasional clinking noise (sounds like a loose piece of metal in the frame work). Incline doesn't always go to the level that you want. This is kind of annoying. Sound system is okay, but not as mind blowing as everybody makes it sound. Overall though, I really like it, and would purchase it again.

Is what you see what you get?
I'll be surprised if this review is posted since the place I bought mine from declined to post my review. the assembly of this machine took about a half a day and a reservior of patience. Some screws won't go in and parts like the wong arm may not fit securely or at all. Still, I got the thing put together. The display offers you everything you could need except an automatic towel wipe during the workout. Unfortunately, for all its niftiness, you will never be certain about your distance travelled, at least not in any common sense way. Nordic tell you that 300 revolutions equals a mile according to their engineers. Ha ha ha ha! No way. Other audiostrider owners, and their mathmetician friends, have posted geometrical formulas for calculating a mile, which by the way appears to be a few revolutions over 1000. So, is it 300 or 1000 revolutions? That's a huge window of possibilities. The odometer reading... also very useless. No one has figured out what this has to do with anything. The trip meter reads "some #" X 100. Okaaaay... and... Now in terms of the actual performance of the machine, I give it a thumbs up! It is an awesome workout, but if you plan to follow a workout plan and record calculations, do be too sure that what you see is what you get.

 great burning machine
This elliptical takes some time to put together (about 2 hrs.). The instructions are pretty easy to follow. It has some great weight loss programs, which kick butt in 20 min. The ipod shuffle fits great with nice loud speakers. The fan is positioned a little high for a 5'2" person. The best thing is it is QUIET!

 WOW
I've had this trainer for a year now and I still love it. It works as well as and even better than the machines at my local gym. The incline, the one touch resistance, and the programs are great and very user friendly. I've lost all my weight and I feel so healthy! The only problem I have with this machine is the sound quality of the speakers...not very good.

 Machine is great!!
I had some problems initially with how the machine was put together by the technician who came to my house. I paid extra so I would not have to put it together. The next technician was no better and finally the third that was sent by NordicTrack was excellent and fixed the problem. I love the machine itself. Wish my iPod would charge as I am connected. NordicTrack service and delivery were excellent

 awesome machine
As far as the exercising goes, this machine is excellent. I love it. I always use it on consecutive days along with my treadmill workout. I gives you the calorie burn workout everyone wants. The intensity is always there if you want it via a click of a button for the incline and/or intensity in the stride. The only thing is that it makes a clicking noise in the front or the back I don't know where it is coming from. But, it does not interfere with the workout nor does it decrease the workout effectiveness. Such a great machine. I work out 5 days a week for a hour and 20 minutes each day. I use the elliptical along with other things to complete my workout.

this is the one for the "needs to lose 20 lbs"average person!
Before I buy anything, I do a lot of research. I'm 5'3" and my husband is 6'3". We both went to 3 sports stores, tried about 30 different machines, and both loved this one. It does take about 2-3 hours to put together and if you read the other reviews first, do the screws not too tight and not too loose. THE POSITIVES:QUIET, SMOOTH, EASY ON THE KNEES,NICE SELECTIONS OF PROGRAMS,FAN ADJUSTS UP AND DOWN,SPEAKERS SOUND GOOD,BACKLIGHT HELPS, DIFFERENT MODES,FIXED AND MOVABLE ARMS,POWER INCLINE, PADDED FOOTRESTS,GREAT WORKOUTS.THE NEGATIVES:HAVEN'T FOUND ANY YET. Although every consumer magazine tells you never to buy the extended warranty, I did. Anything that's going to have that much wear and tear, it's better safe than sorry. I learned my lesson from my treadmill. I didn't get a warranty and the belt tore after 2 years. It cost half the price of the machine to buy just the belt and that didn't include shipping!!Bottom line: great machine for the money!!

Disappointing - Not reliable - Expect Problems
Ordered the Auidiostrider 990 in late November 2008. Also ordered ifit cards. The elliptical trainer shipped within 2 days, but the ifit cards did not ship for 3 more weeks. Set it up and used it for 11 times before I had the first problem. The nut that holds the back axle came off. I put it back on, but it came back off. I contacted customer service who said I should put loctite on the nut. I did that and have not had anymore problem with the nut. Note that it takes time and effort to get this nut back on, not to mention the $4 I had to spend on the loctite. When I contacted customer service about this issue, I also noted some extra squeaking from the wheels, and a concern about lack of alignment. This comment was ignored (still have the problem). The 2nd major problem occurred 2 months later - the console was shorting out. It has been over 1 month since I first contacted customer service about this issue. They are supposed to send me a new console, but it has not yet shipped. I am unable to use the ifit cards due to this problem. I have a 3rd issue, not yet a problem, with the elliptical trainer. This may be somewhat related to the alignment issue mentioned earlier. From day one, I noticed a slight adjustment occurring between the handles while operating (on each revolution). It is more pronounced at the higher ramp elevation (which I just starting using the higher ramp). I think it is a bent axle between the handles. This does not keep me from using it, just distracting and annoying. I will see if it becomes a problem. But if anyone were looking to buy one of these machines, and got on mine and felt this adjustment, I guarantee they would not buy it becuase of this issue.I have had the elliptical trainer for 4 months. Took a full month before I had it with the ifit cards and be able to use like I wanted to. I was able to use it for only 1-1/2 months before I had the 2nd problem. Still waiting to get this problem fixed. I like the machine, when it works. For that I have given it 1 star. I purchased it to

I'm Pleased with My Elliptical Purchase
I'm glad I bought Audiostrider 990 Elliptical. I was considering purchasing a flimsier ProForm machine. This machine is stable and study. I love the variety of the power ramp. I don't think the manual ramp model would be of much value. My first shipment was totally damaged during transit. Nordic track promptly sent a replacement elliptical and picked up the damaged unit. The setup was not as bad as I thought it would be ... about two hours. You need two people to attach the console to the main unit. This is a very versatile and smooth machine. It will really kick your butt!

LOVE IT but buy the warranty!
Ok, to start...the machine was damaged during shipping. There was a piece on the front/lower area that was broken, as well as the back of the display (the fan area). After finally assembling it, it was very noisy, so in adjusting it we come to find a steel piece inside the wheel area was bent out more than a 1/4 inch! after that adjustment it was nice and smooth and quiet. we will have to contact customer service regarding the broken console. we already told them about the plastic piece on the front and they said they would ship a new piece out. now we have to inform them about the back of the console. also, the display doesnt seem to turn off on it's own, we have to unplug it everytime, not major, but certainly annoying. i also have yet to get my iFit cards. i'll post an update after we get to use the machine for a while. As far as set up, my husband did it by himself (he is a carpenter) but it did take a few hours.

Fan & Speakers could be better, otherwise Great!
The built in fan is not very powerful, you would be better off with your own fan. I am very disappointed in the poor sound quality of the speakers considering how much money this machine costs. Skip it listen to your own IPOD. I have owned Nordic Track products before, and other than these minor problem, this elliptical is great!

Assembled it and had to call in service due to factory defect
Luckily was under warranty. But basically the thing broke after an hour of use. Have since requested extended warranty as was told by the person who fixed it that he's seen others with this problem and has fixed other issues. Piece that broke was an assembly defect (Quality Assurance issues at the factory maybe?) Was surprised because NordicTrack is a good brand name with good recognition. Now machine works smoothly but makes noise when you run.

Good Machine But It Has Issues
I want to like the machine more then I do. I really do. But I have had probelms and it's taking 4 months to correct them. First off, I paid for assembly and they damaged my ceiling and new that the machine wasn't right. The speakers made A LOT of noise when there wasn't anythig plugged into it (i.e. iPod) so I called for tech support. I was sent on a wild goose chase looking for a white line filter sold a R---o S---k. I went to 6 stores looking for this piece and it was like I was looking for a unicorn. I ended up pluging the machine into a very expensive powerstrip which is supposed to remove any noise from the power lines and it didn't work. I called tec support and they sent out a whole new monitor. The repairmen came and replaced the unit with a monitor with a bad display. They knew it and I caught them trying to leave without telling me. It's been about six weeks, I just received the monitor and I am waiting for the repairmen to call me back. The machine also makes a knocking noise and the pulse monitor stinks. I feel like I am going to drop dead and it rates my pulse at 42bpm. That said, I think that I just caught a lemon. I can see how people like the machine, but I think that it is the luck of the draw. Beware.

 completely does the job
It is durable. I have been using it for few months and nothing has broken. Its little noisy but not bad.Definitley get it installed by their representative, its worth it. Its not easy to assemble. I wonder people who have had parts gone bad immediately is because of slightly wrong self-assembly.

Good Unit, But Don't Use the Financing!
SUMMARY: Buy the unit for moderate home use but pay cash or use your own credit!Good home unit. overall quality is good although there was some issues in assembly with the attachment if the arms. It was nearly impossible to tighten the three bolts per arm down and I don't think I could ever back them out. Once assembled, it works well and does all that was advertised, though a volume control for the iFit would be nice.In terms of the Financing, DON"T DO IT! The financing was full of hidden fees. First you had to "join" which had a fee. If you get the no finance charge offer, they tack on a monthly fee that is as much as the interest. In terms of consumer protection or NordicTrack making things right, don't expect that.

 Good machine, few flaws
Overall this is an OK machine for the money. My wife & didn't like the foot pads because they really bothered our feet, so I removed them which has made it easier to use, however there are a lot of squeaks whcih I could not get rid of with grease or tightening screws. Machine came out of box damaged and customer service was arguing with me about having to pay shipping on replacement parts even thought the warranty clearly states the parts would be replaced at no cost and I purchased the extended warranty - they need to work on that.

Great machine, but sort of poorly made
I really like my elliptical machine, but I was a little disapointed in the quality of it. Luckily, I am a small person, so I'm not concerned about putting too much wear and tear on it. But, when it arrived there were a few cracked parts, nothing that I felt an urgent need to call customer service on - it all worked fine, but I did have to scrape out some plastic in the wheel area as it was causing resistance and noise. (and still does slightly scrape). I think this may be a better item to pick up rather than ship as I think it takes a beating in the shipping process. Overall, I like how the machine works, I usually keep mine around the 20% incline and just go at my own pace, anything over a level 3 is WAY too hard of a resistance for me. I have tried many other ellipticals at gyms and this one definitely has a stronger resistance, though it has slightly loosened since I bought it back in November. I like that I can plug my Ipod directly into the machine. It's a nice feature. I do wish that you could use the heart rate monitor whenever you wanted, rather than just on specific heart rate "programs."A great machine for the price and for somebody who uses it semi-regularly. I think if it was used everyday by a larger person, I'd be worried about it holding up.Oh and it is really easy to slide around and move in my basement, a great plus!

 First time Elliptical user
I never owned an elliptical but heard so many good things about them. I did my research thoroughly and found the 990 was the best bang for my buck within my price range. Sure it has a few squeaks but foot placement on the pedals can cure that. I enjoy using the iFit cards which provide a different, progressive workout each time. I have definitely noticed my butt and hips have gotten smaller (albeit without dropping a lb- go figure). I have had this machine for almost 2 months and today I am glad I got the extended warranty! My console blacked out on me and reset (very frustrating when you're 1/2 way thru your iFit workout and have to start over again). At first I chalked it up to my iPod being plugged into the console and me changing the song-I thought it created an overload and that's why it reset. Needless to say, I turned everything on again except this time the iPod was not connected...nope- it shorted out again. My advice to you if you are looking to buy this equipment is GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!! I still enjoy the machine and am glad I bought it for all the use it has gotten, but I am even more thankful I listened to the others on here and bought the warranty!

 Great workout, but problematic details
This machine took a really long time to put together, and after spending all this money, I didn't want to pay someone to put it together. Once it was together, the belt slipped off a few times. We also had to cut the speaker wire, since it makes a buzzing sound when not in use but plugged in -- perhaps it's computer interference. My husband and I both like working out on it, though he thinks the stride is a bit short for him (he's 6'2").I never use the programs it has, and the sensors don't seem to work (or my pulse is really, really low). But, despite all of this, I love this machine because I've improved my cardiovascular health and lost weight, and I can see a difference in how my body looks.

 Almost love it
My husband put ours together and had to tighten and oil some parts to get it to work right. There is some kind of defect with the belt, because it is constantly coming off the machine. It is a pain in the but to take off the cover and screws, so now we just leave ours off. Other than that, it works well. My only question is, how are the calories calibrated? I couldn't find this information anywhere. And I'm sure that my husband, who is close to 190, and myself, who is around 128, can't wind up losing the same amount of calories per workout. Does anyone know this information?

We've been using the Audiostrider just about every day and we love it. We get a great workout and its so convenient. There are a variety of programs that fit into our individual styles, so that each of us can use the machine to our liking. You get a sense of total body involvement and as a result you get a great overall workout. Having it in the home --makes exercise easy and very convenient. I used to jog 3-4 times a week, but now i use the elliptical every day. I don't miss the pounding on my knees that running entails. We have had a few mechanical problems (faulty console and some washer replacements, so i recommend getting an extended warranty.Overall, a very positive experience.

 Broken but useable.
Unfortunately I received my Audiostrider broken. It was obvious that it had been disassembled for shipping. I had to obtain additonal bolts to replace bolts that had been removed from the bubble pack. The plastic housing of the display had broken off in shipment but some super glue repaired it sufficiently to avoid the hastle of reshipping the device back. The non-plastic parts are of good construction. Other than the above, I have enjoyed the machine. I especially enjoy the custom program feature although I have yet learned how to reset the 2 programs. There is nothing in the instructions that I received on how to reset it. I also like the built in fan and motorized ramp. I have not had to order any replacement parts due to wear. I use my machine almost every day. It is almost a year old. When this one breaks, I will buy another one but not online.

If I Had It To Do All Over Again
I bought my Audiostrider 990 in December '08. This is the best piece of equipment I have in my home gym. If I had it to do all over again, my home gym would only have one piece of equipment in it. It would not have the treadmill or the weight machine. The only piece of equipment would be be my Audiostrider 990.

 good product, fair customer service
The Audiostrider 990 is a good eliptical with many wonderful features although it makes progressively louder noise with time. Customer service, especially in terms of obtaining initial warranty info was fair at best.

 Professional features
My wife has a high-end athletic-club quality machine that I liked, but since I was buying a machine for ME, I wanted to save a little money...now she's envious of my machine! I particularly like the incline adjustment, which adds a whole new dimension when modifying resistance. Worth the price.

 Good value for Money
Pros-Delivery on time & nothing got damaged.-Easy to install. Although you may want to have another person to help you once all individual parts are ready to be ensembled. I am not good at all when it comes to esembling things but, fortunately I did not have any problem. -Relatively silent (9/10)-Comprehensive training programsCons-None yetMake sure you have someone to help you move it from the doorstep (where they leave it) to where you plan to exercise.

 Relatively Happy
My eliptical was fairly easy to assemble and set up properly, so that was a blessing! The work-out is just as I'd hope it would be, and this machine is great as far as being able to increase heartbeat and keep your legs in shape. However, the heart monitor has never worked, and the mileage as well as the ramp button don't always work. I have to let everything turn off, then start again to use these features at times.

Good product, poor packing, shipping damage
Sturdy machine, assembly was mod difficult d/t tight fitting screws etc. My control panel was severely damaged in transit, Nordic sent a replacement panel fast but no instructions on how to replace it. I fingered it out though. Other damage ( mostly cosmetic) cracked plastic they ignored my email message about that. One slightly bent "pulse" arm not too bad. My ADVICE: any damage to your box on arrival, send it back or refuse it you WILL have concealed damage d/t poor packing design.

Nice Unit but have problems with left arm control
Very pleased with elliptical but do have one major complaint about the arm control system. The right side seems to be emitting a white powder and the left side has play and causes jumpy movement until I push it back in. We recommended the 990 to my brother-in-law and they have the same white dust or powder on the right side where the magnets are covering. Their left side seems snug with no outward movement so it must be just my machine. I looked at the instructions again and see nowhere where I put any of the pieces together so I think it came this way from NordicTrack. If I can get this problem resolved you will have a totally satisfied customer.

 I really like it!!
This elliptical has great stride and workout options! Very stable and comfortable workout. There are only a couple minor things that I don't like. 1)it doesn't show calories burned for all workout outs 2) the cord for your ipod hookup needs something to cover it because it makes a loud static noise if you accidently touch when nothing is plugged in. But no serious complaints overall, we really really like it!

 Great machine for the price
I received this machine on Monday and so far absolutely love it! I read alot of reviews mostly on Sears website of a clicking noise in the wheel and I have not had any troubles with that. The one thing that does disappoint me is that it does not tell you how far you have traveled, it just tells you in revolutions. If you google it, one guy came up with 1008 revolutions per mile but then Nordic Track had told some people that it's 300 revolutions per mile. This machine would be perfect if it told you your distance or if in the manual it told you how many revolutions equal a mile. Other than that I absolutely love it and will use it daily!

I had nordic track assemble the machine. Within a few months the arm pieces required tightening every few days which is a real inconvenience. I expected better.

Excellent for our purposes. Great for the money!
This is great for the price. It meets our needs (two old people who need some exercise--not daily marathon training)No complaints. Just wish the pulse monitors were on the movable handles rather than the stationary ones. Some noise with flywheel revolution, but after a while, we quit noticing.

I purchased mine on line 3 years ago and my husband had it together for me in less than an hour. I have never had any problems with it, I work out on it 5 days a week for 20-30 minutes and it still works like new.It is very smooth and quiet!

 Smooth Assembly Team
I just want to congratulate you on your customer service. I ordered the Audiostrider 990 on Nordictrack.com and opted for installation. I must admit I was impressed with the operator s assurance that the installer would be here within 3 days. After the delivery I called and gave my next 3 available days (tricky because of work). That evening I received a call from the installer. He asked if I was available that same evening and arrived exactly on time. He installed quickly and competently. All of this is unusual and greatly appreciated.

 Great Workouts!
I have had my machine since March 2009 and I love it. It really gives me a great workout and I love to play my IPOD through the speakers and blast the tunes. I was surprised how smooth this elliptical is. I hired someone from NordicTrack to assemble it as I wanted to be sure it was assembled correctly and also purchased the 5-yr in home warranty. It's very quiet, very smooth and I am SO glad that I made this purchase.

As good as it gets for the money
If you compare this machine to the more expensive workout equipment found in that member s only gym I think you will be satisfied with your investment in this machine. The machine is easy to assemble with very little mechanical skill needed, I had my 15 year old son put it together he did fine. I experienced two technical problems. First, during shipping the unit was tossed like a bad salad. The box was damaged in several places. As a result the magnetic sensor that reads the RPM of the wheel as it turns was jarred loose so I had no RPM indication. Your RPM must read or the machines will not turn on I called the technical support on the telephone. They directed me to the sensor, had me adjust it, and it worked. Second, when the machine was assembled at the company they did not properly install the drive belt on the wheel. The belt fell off about the third use of the machine. I reinstalled the belt and it worked fine. I thought my son did not install the belt properly but installation of the belt is not a step in the assembly of the machine by the instructions. So check this belt yourself before you use the unit. Since I worked out the minor issues the machine has worked great! No problems. If you want a great home machine that is far above Wal-Mart specials but just below professional equipment, price wise, this is the machine for you. The only real gamble you face is that if the machine is poorly handled during shipping (mine was) you are probably going to have something that needs fixed. The technical support served me well with my problems. With that said I am very pleased with this equipment. As good as it gets for the money

What a great piece of equipment!!!
I love my 990 Elliptical the only thing that I don't like about it is the fan. Doesn't give off enough, even when on high. You have to go real close to the console to feel the fan. Pretty hard to do when you are peddling. Otherwise, its a real good piece of equipment to have in your home if you are fortunate, as I am. Thank you!

 wow what a workout!
I love Nordic Track equipment. Over the years I have owned a treadmill and a stairclimber. I started to have back problems when walking/jogging on the treadmill so I sold it and bought the audiostrider. I could easily walk at a high incline for an hour and barely sweat on my treadmill but the elliptical has me sweating pretty freely after 20 minutes! My arms have toned up and my butt has totally re-shaped. The incline is wonderful. My back does not baother me at all anymore. My only small complaint is that it a bit squeaky. But then, I am a teacher and my ability to tune out is pretty strong......

 The Real Scoop
Have used the 990 for two weeks and based on this experience the following are my findings. For reference I am 55 and weighed 173, about 15 lbs. over my target weight on day one. I now weigh 167 which was accomplished by doing 30 minutes 5 days a week and thinking twice about what I am eating. The put together took me about 3 hours and I am somewhat handy. Just good to know so you should set aside the time. If you try to rush you will make mistakes. The instructions are pretty good but a few steps could be made clearer. The screws are packaged in a laminated cardboard base with clear identification...that was a big plus. After put together I had a clicking noise in the magnet housing. The troubleshooting section pointed me to the solution but was somewhat vague. One of the circular side panels on the magnet housing was not seated all the way from the factory. A plastic clip was exposed and once seated the clicking was silenced. The front lower base squeaks like a mouse with every revolution. I have not been able to solve this squeak. I suspect it is the bottom of the front post rubbing against the plastic base. The overall movement otherwise feels very good to me and yields an excellent workout. The speakers do the job of playing my mp3 but are of low fidelity. The sound quality reminds me of the old 1960's small suitcase turntables.I prefer to use my earbuds which also silences the squeaks. The display is good and provides a ton of information. The built in programs are great and you are also able to make your own custom program which is a nice touch. All the controls are easy to adjust in a split second. If you decide to buy I would say, don't expect a mercedes but a chevy with just about all the options you can get.

If you're looking for a gym quality machine...this is it!
This machine is everything I expected. For years I paid a gym membership to work out on their elliptical. But now I have it in my house and it is comparable to those I used in the gym (power ramp, heart rate monitor, digital display). Don't pay the insane fee to get it assembled...all you need is someone to help you and you can get it together in a few hours (it's not that difficult). The speakers work great and the volume is loud, the fan is an added plus when working out. I love the iFit component. The only thing to complain about is that it can be a bit squeaky while operating, but nothing unbearable. Give it a try!

 Very Good Investment
Purchased this model almost 2 years ago and still one of the best investments I made, exercise-wise. Assembly took about 2 hours with clear directions. The only thing I have to say is purchase the warranty. The fan burned out and got a replacement, gratis because I had the warranty. The I-Fit technology is pure brilliance. Using this feature is like having a personal trainer pushing you all the way to reach your goal. Great piece of equipment, am purchasing the incline trainer next.

 Hard to tell.....
It's hard to tell if this unit is going to be good or not. I received it 10 days ago and the incline motor did not work. Customer service ordered the parts and said someone would be in touch. The service tech said call me when the parts come in...and I'm still waiting. Beware that there is no easy (or cheap) way to return the unit if it doesn't work. There's a reason they push the extended warranty.

 Great workouts!!!!
I was told by my doctor to exercise more. He said I should walk 30 minutes a day. I went on line to check on treadmills. While looking, I came upon ellipticals. I found out ellipticals are better for older people. They are easier on the knees. I am 83 years old, so I choose the easier on the knees route. I have this machine for 2 months, and it is fantastic!! I get a good workout everyday. No big deal putting it together. It took me about 2 hours, by myself.

 Minor flaws but great machine
I have had mine for almost a year and haven't run into any mechanical problems. The fan is kinda a joke... and it would be nice if the workout programs had a minimum speed. They tell you when you're going too fast but there's no "too slow", so it's hard to determine the target without speeding up until it tells you you're going too fast. A little annoying. Otherwise, I'm extremely happy with the machine and the workout I get with it. I'm a distance runner and added the elliptical for variety. I use it in place of runs more often than I thought I would!

This machine is great had it for over a year. I have a small home it fits nicely, so conveinient to do a workout and fold out of the way. The only complaint is, I am short so the fan blows above my head. No problems. Experienced weight loss and a feel of getting healthy!

 Best Investment Ever
My wife and I workout on this wonderful machine daily! It has great weight loss programs and lets you change up your routines. I was injuried during the Iraq war and gained significant weight while I recovered. I was able to get back on it in late Dec 2011. It is now March 4th, 2012 and I have lost 25 lbs. My wife joined me in the weight loss training and she has lost 14 lbs. This is an absolutely wonderful piece of equipment and even after the extended use we have put this thing through, the only problem we had with it was it started to squeak. It was not the equipments fault, but ours because we had failed to apply some simple grease. We went to the store and picked some up cheaply. It took us just a few minutes and our equipment was as good as new. We love it. Best investiment in our health!!!

After a bumpy start, so far so good
After around six or seven uses, the flywheel came loose and the unit was unusable. I called for warranty service and was told that there would be a $45 service charge. I told them that the unit was within the covered trial period and that I was going to return it. They agreed to have a service person come out at no charge. Once fixed (a retaining bolt had not been tightened adequately, a common problem according to the serviceman) I have not had a problem with the equipment. The unit operates very smoothly, the various resistances and degrees of incline allow for a great variety of workouts, and the built in programs also make for a good variety of intensities and durations. I also prefer ellipticals with the handles for upper body workouts, which the 990 has. I compare it favorably to the best ellipticals I've used at clubs. There is also a convenient holder for a water bottle or anything else you want to put there. The built in fan is nice in warm weather. I don't use the stereo much as I have a TV in the workout room and prefer that instead, but the speakers seemed adequate when I tried them. The unit folds up easily for moving and storage. From what I can see, the iFIT workout cards aren't worth the money. I use it two to three per week in addition to yoga and Total Gym workouts. Overall, it makes for a good overall fitness program.

 Overall a very good elliptical!
This is a very good Cardio work out device. You can get to the desired calorie burn without delay.I have two less than satisfactory comments. First, the original "990" delivery was damaged beyond repair due to poor packing. Second, problem pertains to quality control or manufacturing issues. I had to use a tap and die set to clean out some of the threads which delayed the process of getting the machine online. The threads were not just clogged with paint, the original machining was unsatisfactory on some bolts and threads. Once I retapped the threads and ran a die over some of the bolts, the rest of the assembly process went well.I ordered my "990" mid December 2008 and didnt actually get to use it until the last week Jan. 2009. Once NordicTrack resolves these issues the "990" should receive 5 stars!

 Pleasantly surprised.
I was very excited to receive my Elliptical but also very nervous after reading all the reviews of cracked and damaged parts. It arrived in perfect condition thankfully and only had minor difficulty assembling it. Mostly just tight fitting screws, but with a little elbow grease it took just about 2 hours to assemble. I have had it for about 2 weeks. After about 40 minutes on this thing I work up a good sweat and feel good that I am able to work towards my goals in the comfort of my own home. I use it every day and felt guilty the one day I skipped. There is some some clicking when using it and I do not think my heart rate monitor is very accurate, other than that I have absolutely no problems. All in all very pleased with my purchase.
